Rating : - Nice looks, but not very iPhone 3G compatible; drops connection I've bought Seidio cradles for my Treo before and loved 'em. I wanted a black iPhone 3G cradle to match the black of my iPhone 3G, so I ordered several of these docks. Unfortunately, it's unreliable.
Sure, it'll charge your iPhone when plugged in. Sure, it's got the right pin out for the iPhone 3G so it doesn't trigger any warning dialogs about being "unsupported" and suggesting airplane mode (as you'll get with earlier docs not designed specifically for the new iPhone 3G pin out).
However, when syncing, it would routinely disconnect from iTunes (I'm on a Mac), so iTunes 8.01 thinks the device has been removed, but the phone still thinks that it is syncing with the computer! This happens at least 70% of the time!
What's odd, is that if I use the Apple iPod Classic (fifth gen) cradle/doc for syncing my iPhone 3G, the sync is solid! I never get this kind of problem. Sure, it'll pop up the annoying dialog about not being designed for this device and suggesting airplane mode, but charging and syncing works flawlessly, all the time.
So, if you want reliability, the Apple made cradle docks are solid, IMHO. I would buy one of those except they don't make it in black to match my phone (Apple, are you listening!?).
There are a couple of other dock manufacturers with black units for the iPhone 3G. Not sure if I'll try those or wait on the sidelines for six months until this segment of accessories matures.
All in all, a disappointment with this dock from Seidio, who normally makes really solid stuff.
My recommendation: avoid this product until they rev it. Better yet, wait for Apple to do a dock in black or just get the white one from Apple that's made for the iPhone 3G.
